Working Together to Advance the Gospel: TWGN Devotional - 24th April

 

MEMORY VERSE:

“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9 (KJV)

MEDITATION:

The work of the Gospel is never meant to be carried by one person alone. From the beginning, God designed humanity for partnership, unity, and shared purpose. When believers come together with one heart, one vision, and one Spirit, the impossible becomes possible. The Kingdom of God advances faster, stronger, and deeper when we labor together in love.

In today’s world, individualism is often celebrated. Many people prefer to work alone, build alone, and succeed alone. However, the Gospel of Jesus Christ presents a different model—one rooted in unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility. Christianity is not a solo journey; it is a collective mission.

From the early Church in Acts to modern-day ministries, the spread of the Gospel has always depended on believers working together. No single person has all the gifts, all the strength, or all the wisdom needed to fulfill God’s mission on earth. But together, as one body, we become complete.

Working together is not always easy. Differences in opinion, personality clashes, pride, and misunderstanding can create barriers. Yet, God calls us beyond these challenges into a higher purpose—unity in Christ for the advancement of His Kingdom.

1. God Designed Us for Partnership

From creation, God said, “It is not good that man should be alone” (Genesis 2:18). This principle goes beyond marriage; it reflects God’s intention for human relationships and cooperation. Even in spiritual matters, isolation weakens effectiveness, while unity strengthens it.

Jesus Himself demonstrated this principle by sending His disciples out two by two (Luke 10:1). This was not by accident—it was a divine strategy. When believers work together, they support, encourage, and strengthen one another.

2. The Body of Christ Concept

The Bible describes the Church as the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-27). A body has many parts, each with a unique function. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” Likewise, no believer can claim independence from others in the work of the Gospel.

Some are called to preach, others to teach, some to pray, others to give, and some to serve in practical ways. Each role is vital. When we recognize and respect these differences, unity is strengthened.

Working together means appreciating others’ gifts instead of competing with them.

3. Unity Brings Power and Results

In Acts 2:1, the Bible says the disciples were “all with one accord in one place.” This unity preceded the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Unity attracts divine presence and power.

When believers are united:

• Prayers become more effective
• Evangelism becomes impactful
• Growth becomes inevitable

Division, on the other hand, slows down progress and weakens the testimony of the Church.

4. Overcoming Barriers to Working Together

a. Pride

Pride makes people feel superior or unwilling to submit. True teamwork requires humility. Jesus, though Lord, washed the feet of His disciples (John 13:14-15).

b. Jealousy and Competition

Some believers struggle when others succeed. But in God’s Kingdom, another person’s success is a collective victory.

c. Lack of Forgiveness

Offenses are inevitable in teamwork. However, forgiveness is essential to maintain unity. Without it, relationships break and the work suffers.

d. Communication Gaps

Misunderstandings can arise when communication is poor. Honest, loving communication helps maintain harmony.

5. Biblical Examples of Working Together

• Paul and Barnabas: They worked together in missionary journeys, strengthening churches and spreading the Gospel (Acts 13).
• Moses and Aaron: Aaron supported Moses in leadership and communication.
• Nehemiah and the Builders: They rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem through coordinated teamwork (Nehemiah 4).

These examples show that great achievements in God’s Kingdom are rarely done alone.

6. The Goal: Advancing the Gospel

The ultimate purpose of working together is not personal gain, recognition, or power—it is to move the Gospel forward.

Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19:

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations…”

This command is too big for one person. It requires:

• Evangelists
• Intercessors
• Teachers
• Supporters
• Leaders

Everyone has a role to play.

7. The Blessings of Working Together

• Strength in Unity: Challenges become easier to face.
• Shared Burden: No one is overwhelmed.
• Faster Progress: Tasks are completed more efficiently.
• Spiritual Growth: Relationships sharpen faith.

Psalm 133:1 says,

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

TODAY’S ADVICE:

Do not isolate yourself in the work of God. Find people who share your passion for the Gospel and collaborate with them. Be willing to serve, support, and submit where necessary.

Celebrate others’ strengths and be humble about your own. Remember, the goal is not to shine alone but to shine together for Christ.

TODAY’S FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

If the Gospel depends only on you, how far will it go? But if you join hands with others, how much more can be achieved?

The foundation of our unity is Jesus Christ. He came to save humanity, not individuals in isolation but a people united under His name.

Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. Through Him, we receive salvation, forgiveness, and new life. When we accept Him, we become part of one body—the Church.

This shared salvation is what binds us together. We are not just workers; we are family in Christ.

If you have not accepted Jesus, today is the day. Come to Him, believe in Him, and become part of His Kingdom.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us into Your Kingdom. Help us to work together in unity and love for the advancement of the Gospel. Remove pride, division, and selfishness from our hearts. Teach us to value one another and to serve faithfully. Use us collectively to reach souls and glorify Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
